The Midwest Lumber team called for a quote on expanding their racking system to make room for new inventory in a time of extremely fast growth during Covid. Timing was incredibly tight because of a huge demand for lumber. Their team had new inventory and sizes coming sooner than anticipated for Spring and needed new cantilever racking to support the demand. This was particularly challenging because it’s nearly impossible to find used cantilevers, and lead time for new cantilever at that time was around 10-12 weeks with our main manufacturer. Luckily, we were able to find some stock in-state so we could provide them two options: 10-12 weeks at 15% cheaper or 1-2 weeks for 15% more with the in-state supplier. They went with the latter option and we were able to ship the materials within a week.
We met the goal of finding and installing the racks within 2-3 weeks, instead of the original quote of 10-12 weeks. This was a huge success because we were able to finish installation before the new inventory and sizes arrived. The operations manager was very relieved because he wasn’t given much heads up from his corporate office about the changes. We tore down 11 pcs 16’ single sided cantilever, 18 pcs 48” load arms, 62 pcs 36” load arms, 5 pcs 18×48” teardrop frames, 24 pcs 120” beams, 8 pcs 96” beams, 32 pcs 42” wire decks, and 54 pcs of concrete anchoring. We provided and installed 49 192” columbs, 148 48” arms, and 84 36” arms for their new Structural Cantilever system. Overall the project was a great team effort and huge success for the Midwest Lumber team, saving them a lot of time and stress in their season of growth.
