Should You Use a Racking Repair Kit?
Accidents are an unfortunate, but often unavoidable, part of managing a warehouse. All it takes is a forklift turning just a little bit too wide for a rack to become damaged. And that damage can mean unplanned downtime for your operation. In fact, this downtime, not to mention the labor required to clear a rack and restock it, often greatly outweighs the cost of an outright replacement. That’s where repair kits come in.
What Exactly is a Repair Kit?
Repair Kits are a unique racking solution that allows you to quickly replace the damaged area of a rack—without the need to remove all of the products stored on it. This ensures limited disruption to your warehouse operations.
Racking isn’t something most warehouses replace all that often and by the time a replacement is needed, the specific type of rack that needs replacing might be difficult to find. That’s why these kits can provide exceptional value when it comes to repairing damage on extremely tall or difficult-to-replace custom racking solutions. Because repair kits are built to match your existing infrastructure, your racking stays consistent.
How Do They Work?
The process starts with an assessment survey from a licensed installer. These repair kits are customized to closely match the specifications of the existing racking. The licensed installer takes detailed measurements regarding the height, width, style—even the color of the damaged rack. They then translate those measurements into a custom-made repair kit that will blend seamlessly into your existing racking.
Installation is quick and simple. A licensed installer will use a proprietary jack to support the racking while the damaged segment is removed. The repair kit takes the place of the damaged racking and the product is put back on the rack. Oftentimes, your warehouse operations can even continue as normal during the installation.
There are situations where the damage to the rack is too great for a repair kit to make sense. And under certain circumstances, such as with small racking that is easily sourced, it may make more sense to just replace the racking outright. But in the circumstances where a repair kit is a good fit—it can be a powerful tool for keeping your operations running safely and smoothly.
